Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it – no matter if I have said it! – except it agree with your own reason and your own common sense.” – Siddhartha Gautama, a.k.a. the Buddha

A little homework for ya

First, read this. Don’t blow it off, it won’t take ya long and IS relevant.

Ok, ya back? Now, a little entertainment value for your assignment. You’ll be helping a fellow writer out as well. Read this, and This, then think about that article above. (Enjoyable reads if ya wanna take my word on it.)

Can it happen? IS it happenING? Dunno, but its not a world I want to see. Far too much control in too few hands with little to Zero accountability.

But I can see signs of Faustus Mercator IRL in the form of Klaus Schawb.

  1. 20 years ago all this stuff could easily be dismissed as science fiction nonsense…Nowadays, every time you turn around its another H*ly $#it! discovery, made all the more ominous because we know the technology DOES exist and it’s gonna be hell to find workarounds to avoid Big Brother in the all-too-near future. Got preps? I suspect food will be one of the first things “restricted” for those “badthink” practitioners out there. Plan accordingly.

    • Im not as certain on that. Im thinking it will be a morph of cancel culture, digital currency and ‘fit in or go away’ and there will be two ‘worlds’ side by side. Recall in Orwells 1984, there was a sub-class of people that didn’t seem to have issues of BB? (Been a few years since I read it, but I recall Winston bought his notebook from one such, and was ‘renting his hideway from same.

      • I don’t disagree. My point was just that making that side-by-side world will be much more difficult than ol’ George imagined. With cameras every 10 feet pointed in every direction, bank accounts being siphoned with a few mouse clicks, the ability to shut off cars remotely, license plate readers and FastTrack scanners popping up on the highways, not to mention everyone carrying a GPS on their person everywhere they go… Lately I’ve been a few places that have moved to “cashless” transactions only. And not swanky places, I’m talking about parking garages and a bar in a nightclub. That’s a trend I fear will accelerate at an ungodly speed, and it’s gonna be tough to shove that Genie back in the bottle or even ignore it. What happens when grocery stores and gas stations go 100% cashless? That makes it really easy to put limitations on people AND absolve the worker bees at the same time. “I’m sorry Sir, the register says you’ve already purchased your allotment of ground beef this month, it won’t let me scan this with your order.” I know it sounds crazy, but that’s exactly what happens if you try to buy certain allergy meds that tweakers learned how to make into meth. Once you’ve made A purchase, if you try again within a 30 day period, no dice. The pharmacy clerk gives you a “sorry”, and it’s too bad, so sad for you.
I don’t know what the answer to all this is, but the whole thing leaves me mighty uneasy… Will we see a high tech wonderland for the In-crowd and 1800’s pioneer living for the rest of us?

      • Your last sentence is MY fear. I could do it, but its not ‘living’ its basic subsistence ar the local level, and that is exactly what it would be, local only.
