Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it – no matter if I have said it! – except it agree with your own reason and your own common sense.” – Siddhartha Gautama, a.k.a. the Buddha

When the herd mooo-ves

I find it humorous and more than a little sad to see fellow human beings so obviously infected with herd instincts.

Yes, a pipeline has an issue that is being resolved, but its not a terminal thing since the entire pipeline is 100% operational. The controls are what were captured, not the property.

But (and I lay the blame squarely on FrenzyMedia) the reaction “gonnarunouttagas, gots to fill up ALL my stuff so I don’t run out ” and actual physical lines backed around blocks and blocks of people waiting to get gas,,,, One such line here was 1/2 mile long down the breakdown shoulder of a 4 lane highway.

That, puts a strain on the system. Kinda like everyone in Houston turning up the t-stat at the same time when the temps dropped below 40.

The JIT supply system is resilient, but isn’t the end all be all system so many people seemingly think it is. Its also fragile: One break and the ripples start waves. The ripple in this case was a pipeline shut down. The waves are the sudden demands spiking which will cause other waves like transpotation glitchs and costs, and that will reflect in food costs over the next couple months. There is ZERO need to freak out because the system can sustain temporary loss of one point; there are other sources to fill the gap, but the sudden spike creates a vacuum effect.

Do I see this as a problem? Not yet, but the long term effects are Tsunami compared to the suddenness of the outrushing tide. ‘Gee Maw, you see how big the beach just got, lets go down by the water and see if we can find some starfish!!!’

Its not the lines of herd infected. Its not the knowing that its gonna cost more to feed my truck. Its not the higher costs of feeding ME that are coming. None of that bother me like is apparent in the Herd.

What bothers me is how so many are so happily influenced by Enemedia/Frenzimedia and that there are so many riding the razors edge of fight or flight because of the horseshit peddled by that Media.

I’m just waiting for the water to come back in.

Updated @ 0645: out n about doing my morning runs, three local gas places have triple zeroes on the marquee. OuttaGas. ROLMAO. And one already had a line of cars waiting,,,

Yes, I am amused, and yes saddened(disappointed?) in my fellow humans.

Just glad as hell my sis made it home to SC, before the herd moooo-ved.

  1. And I am nowhere near the genuine affect area(s), but still glad I have the reserve can (bought ages ago) Just In Case. So far, no real insanity here. So far. Still, preparedness is good for the blood pressure. (yes, it gets cycles, yes it gets preserving adduitives. The gas, no the blood….)

    • Apparently, we aren’t either. Not a single line today, and by noon, all the places with empty tanks were back online doing business as usual.
Freaking out over Chicken Littles seems to be the norm these days.

Glad as F@#k! I’m not ‘normal’.
