Wrappin up the weekend.

Still haven’t recovered fully from that bug that laid me low tuesday.  So some progress was thwarted by lack of get up n go.

But there is still forward momentum. Pics explain

    • Yeah, thats the only thing I can figure with the dogs. Voo will lay right on your feet if you sit still long enough. I think he believes he is making me take a break by doing that.
Yup, dried in, septic tank is being sourced and as soon as. I have a way of getting rid of my own ,,,,, move in and being the detail work in earnest. Plumbing, electric, by then will NEEED insulation if ain’t already there (ceiling is in process now but no utilities runnin up there) stove is only waiting on me for my part for install. Seems that the list is infinitely long, but each part has a priority and that makes it much easier to allocate FRN’s and time.
Thanks bro. I inspired you at one point, you have inspired me as well.

Just doing what I need to as I can…before long will send some updates, putting roof on 8×16 add on to brothers place and it’ll be totally dried in. Not bad 2 houses in 3 years with 12 month recoup in the mix…still working on finishing interior, seems that will be ongoing, as always more priorities popup . Fortunately. No codes where I am, had to get a flood plain permit, no fees, no problem. Yeap, you’re spending winter in the house.

Guess this answers my question of will you have a roof by winter. Lots of saving, waiting and prepping but finally, the dream takes shape. Damn fine work.

    • Thank you from m’self, dad and Uncle. They are a force to be reckoned with when boredom strikes and this house has them having fun again. But yes, saving scrimping and landing the occasional deal in materials is finally appearing out of the void of dreams and into reality.

    • Oh yeah, sure isn’t the same plot of land you saw when you came down to visit, is it? LOL. I had mentioned to You girl child that I might be visiting you ’round Hallows Eve, but thinking that I am gonna be quite cash strapped then, for obvious reasons. No worries, I will make it yet even if just to get away from this for a day. The Voo will not be making that trip though as his car sickness is really much worse. Never thought I would have a dog that DIDN’T want car rides, Wow!

Looks great. I confess I had not been following your blog for a while but just caught up on the last year or so. I went back through all the comments on the cabin photos but didn’t see any dimensions. Just curious about your layout and your home produced utilities. I’m close do doing some similar building but have a few codes to deal with. Like 800 sq. ft. minimum for one. Glad I found your blog again.

    • Depending on where you are, and what codes are in place (and being enforced) you may want to figure on something else entirely. My chosen lifestyle is not for everyone. Minimal electric use (read less than 1000 watts a day in most instances. This build being an exception ) no television, no microwave, no desktop computer with monster monitor, no uber sound system. My Laptop is sometimes called a netbook etc etc. All of my electricity is gathered by solar panel or generated by wind or via portable generator. No grid tie at all. My water source is natural and stored in a tank up hill, and my sewage system is best left unsaid in a public forum (even if it is completely sanitary, it ain’t “approved”).
I chose this area for several reasons. First being near my Dad (75 years young and don’t you forget it LOL) second being cheap land (its near vertical in places, and rocks grow like weeds) and third: lax rarely enforced codes and I am on the very furthest edge of the county.
I have some issues with the area that aren’t relevant to air here, but I find it much more free than the yankee state I left behind. This project would never have left the notebook there.

I’m planning a slightly larger solar array. About 800 watts in panels. and will meet the 800 square foot requirement. i still have to hook to the grid but will produce most of my needs myself. I have a spring on my property but will have to pump water up hill about 30 feet to a holding tank and may need another small pump to give me pressure at the house. Not much power needed for that. Plan is for solar, super insulation, and wood heat. Summer cooling will be a 5000 btu Window ac and will be a use for any surplus electricity. As long as the grid is up i’ll use it. Already have a septic down and a well but it is a deep 240 volt rig.

I plan on living pretty simply. I can lose the tv and alot of other comforts but I do enjoy the internet. I use a laptop. A fridge and perhaps a shot of A/C once in a while and I’m good. A 5000 BTU unit draws about 600 watts. I figure I will get 4000 watts plus a day and should get a few hours of AC a day. I wish I was back home in Yankee land for less ac needs.

For now I’m on 22 acres in a newer singlewide and could be sitting a lot worse.

    • Dunno ’bout”deserving it” but I sure as hell am “earning it”. Yeah, it’s not just about time, its past that, that ol’RV has pretty much lived past usefulness and is starting the downhill slide into decrepitude.
