Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it – no matter if I have said it! – except it agree with your own reason and your own common sense.” – Siddhartha Gautama, a.k.a. the Buddha

And here we are.

I know that I said no politics on this page.  I have to say that over the last 48 hours, I have been mighty silent on things.

And really, what can you say.   The voice of modern thinking spoke up and made intentions QUITE clear.

TL has his say on it.

The Welshman has his say on it.

Anne has her say.

All I can say on the subject at this point is that we have received an extension of sorts.   Yes, more of the same, only harder this time around.   IF, you don’t have it together, IF, you don’t have your tribe in order, IF, you don’t have the mindset corrected: NOW is when you get a chance to get it in order.

What is coming?   God only knows.    Will we see civil disruptions due to that divisiveness that the backsliding carpetbagger mentioned in his concession speech?  The answer to that depends on how hard the opposition pushes those that actually fund the Nanny State.

Will the Arms laws go even further down the proverbial toilet?   Given past history of those involved and historical precedent in other totalitarian regimes: Very likely.   Will you comply?  All I can say to that is find a local drug head and pay him $5 for a signature on a receipt for any lost guns or what not.    Paperwork is always worth more than “Honest words” when it comes to shady and compromised court systems.

Me, I will be doing what I have to, to keep the shop alive and well.   There will be need for people to make things that don’t have a paper trail of shipping containers and trucking manifests.   Things that will not be available when the full impact of our national debt starts to settle on those that actually make the gears move in our world.  Things that are now taken for granted by our JIT delivery systems.

You probably know of a few items you can make that won’t be around when the fuel goes through the roof and deliveries cease.    Might want to make an effort to get some of that “hoarded’ now.   When the time comes, you will become a hub in the new economy that doesn’t work on monopoly monies.     Assuming of course that the JBT’s aren’t ordered to “tax” you for your forethought.  (See Urban survival for more info dated Monday Nov 5th)
My opinion?   Not that it matters, I am just one iota of the plethora of scribblers on the Nets.   My opinion.   We have fallen off the edge and are now in freefall.   I have to agree with Joel on one point though:

“Fine. Bring it on. Whatever. But in the meantime the chickens want out of their coop. Little Bear has wrapped his cable around his favorite tree again, and there’s fresh bread for breakfast. Same as always. Because I don’t care what these bozos do. To whatever extent I can, I’ve separated myself from them and I plan to stay separated.

I have things to do to get the shop back to functional again.   Let the fall happen, I will be ready for it then.

  2. Some are talking parallel existence. Legal in every way, just separated in all facets. Ignoring the fools in every way. Until they die off. But will they let those groups of people really separate? Legal means nothing, when virtue is non-existent.

    • Legal means nothing, when virtue is non-existent.

      Aint that the sad truth.
As for parallel existence, look to Pete. His entire economy and that of his family is based upon a parallel existence with him as the bridge between the two. We could learn a lot from him (and I did)

Yes indeedy, barter is legal. I’ve my shop and you ,yours. I’m sure of plenty more in between. Eventually even our little enterprises will be intruded upon by regulatory agencies. They will figure out a means of taxing barter I’m sure. Especially if it becomes the sole means of trade….
The country is divided 50/50, and it is a democracy ! Not ours to decide differently. Only thing to do about it , is to carry on with our lives best we can and lead by example.
Producing a quality good or service for a fair price, which made our country great…
Some have forgotten these simple things.

    • Barter actually has been deemed taxable. Look up the Barter Bank scenario about a decade back. The whole thing shut down because the IRS started taxing the ‘goods’ at “fair Market Value”: of course, whatever they chose as fair, not the clients of the bank.
Craig is right, just withdraw consent by withdrawing the funds. Work under the table if possible, or if you can’t, claim as many deductibles as you can and pay as little as possible. Then, don’t file. If there are 150million that follow suit, what can they do? (on the assumption that that many would have the cojones to do so. I won’t hold my breath.) How many are even going to be able to pay the new taxes that hit the books come Jan 1? I know I can’t.
Then you have signs of what is to come by some business owner saying he laid off 50% of his staff when O was re-elected. Or other SBO’s that are starting the process of clearing away excess equipment to shut the doors at the end of the quarter because they no longer can see a profit margin and can’t justifiably raise their prices to compensate. This isn’t just limited to mom and pops either. Many are doing that same dance right now, and that ball, once rolling doesn’t stop until the floor drops out.

We have two paths we can take, and quite honestly, both are justified. Withdraw from the system, which is preferable, or fight it, which will be bloody. Mostly on our side. But time is running short for option #1…

    • extremely short. As Anne stated in her post, there is only ONE non-violent option left available to us and that is to withdraw. I am already there for the most part, only need to eliminate my last ‘addiction’ of smoking and I will be much better off in several spheres of prep.

    • That is one project that is at the top of the list, IN TIME. Right now, getting established is taking precedence. Setting up the shop and moving the tools in and organizing them in such a way as to encourage work. Plus, re-discovering resources, like where to get my bottles filled at and alternatives for when I can no longer do so. All in good time.
